No matter what language you speak, you've probably come across words or phrases in another language that sound better than their equivalents in your native tongue. What's your favorite word or phrase in a foreign language?

Going up to a sort of ex and yelling 'hijo de la puta madre' or something of that sort, then taking to the time to disucss the literal translation; 'son of a whore mother' was a drunken mistake but rather fun all the same

I am unimpressed by the livejournal layout today.

I am definitely going to get trenchfoot, or gout. Or something.
Tom from London informed me that Saturday was only the second day since reading week when there hadn't been any rain... Sunday and today pretty much made up for it. I've got through ever pair of trousers just from going to get my laundry or popping next door. Urghgh
Anyway, we've got a drawing workshop this week, pinning up on Friday (the last day of term - a little harsh in my opinion)
I have just sorted out going back for a cafe grande night out, bit stressful on my phone credit.
Meanwhile, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCRxcf4YNjg what me and my flatmates do for fun.

This post is mainly to illustrate what it's like to live with people who consider themselves "arty"
My flatemates have made it a sort of mission to steal as many chairs as possible this year...
We now have 22 chairs between the 4 of us but instead of sitting on them we now have an enormous chair sculpture in the middle of the living room (below)

And above, there is also a picture taken out of my window. I'm hoping the paint will get all weathered from the constant rain although it seems to be holding out so far..
..We have room and flat inspections tomorrow *woe* I have to unpin everything from my wall

Reading week - class!!
Even got some reading done.
John and Mic from Hexham were up for what seemed like months, actually only 4 days. They informed me I was going to die young, and probably be very miserable with what time I had left if I kept up the level of work I was doing. So after a couple of late nights in the studio I moseyed on down to Langley and Fourstones for a break from the hectic uni way of drinking, staying up late and watching Family Guy.
Didn't reeaally go to plan, but what the hey I had a great time.
Have got a few projects due in next week, am sort of getting there, but the bastards that run the studios are shutting them for the Monday bank holiday tomorrow!! I really could have done with a solid 13 or 14 hours in the studio to get stuff done. It may sound like I'm trying to point out how many friggin hours I put into my course. I am. And I'm not sorry. But it's true so there you go.
Have got an hour before my bus back tae Glasgae so I'd better get my stuff packed.
Also must buy Newbie's birthday present, I think I know what he's getting but I'm not sure...

What is it with all these Edinburgh + Rain posts? If it's not raining in Glasgow, the possibility of rain elsewhere is extremely low as it probably means time has stopped, or the world has ended.
Am probably coming back through to the Burgh today, cos I sick of Glasgow. Having said that, about 8 people from halls are going too. Am also undecided. Night in or night out?? I need to do some work, collages, drawings, it's a hard life.

In other news. My hands are utterly covered in bright green spraypaint due to Newbie's newfound penchant for graffiti art. (Don't worry, we didn't deface any monuments or nice buildings- we're architects for goodnessake)
Speaking of architecture....

...actually let's not.

Well....its not going bad, but this past week I've not being staying late because we don't have any definite deadlines at the moment, so I've been going home at 5 or 6 o'clock. And already that feels like having a half day. Friday was immense. Started at 10 o'clock, lecture got cancelled so we were done by 1pm!! The feeling was like being on a cocktail of drugs whilst bungeejumping or similar. Wow.

Have got to go and eat some apple strudel (serves 12 for £1.50!! You can't go wrong with Sainsburys)

Time: 11.25am 10/10/06
Location: Stage 1 Arch. Studio

Briefing: "Consider day lighting, scale proportion, views, access, circulation, materials, colour and texture. You do not need to concern yourself with structure or construction."

I love art school.

Also, the last point before we started making our models was put forward by Tony, the head of 1st year:
"And yes we are aware of disability access laws. And we have chosen to ignore them."

This is just going to turn into an architecture journal, we walked across the whole of Glasgow yesterday. It took pretty much all day cos all 5 of us kept seeing things we had to photograph.
Newbie took me to a gig last night. It was....shit. Shame, becasue his best friend's band was playing, but I'm not going to lie. I am not a fan of screamo bands as it turns out.

Um otherwise, we all seem to be getting the hang of cooking for eachother. Someone stol the last of my Coco Pops this morning. WHich is fine except that he doesnt even live in our flat, and his own kitchen is a mere 30 seconds away.

Am looking forward to another fortnight of crazed work  after a weekend "off".

Also the fact that getting up at 7.30 to be in the studio by 9am means that I won't get home til half seven. And this is a relatively easy project!!
Man I am lucky that one of my flatmates seems to enjoy cooking for all of us.
I have lectures non stop from 9-5 tomorrow. Loving the architecture!!xx

I really love that when I stay up til half past 2 making models of minature people, I am actually doing something important to my course and not procastinating as usual.

I knew Glasgow was going to be rainy, but B'JEESUS, talk about a place that the sun don't shine.

Other than that, and the fact that our Freshers week hasn't heard of the word "organisation" yet, Glasgow is awesome!!

Am in a top floor flat with 2 other architects and a sculptor. Unfortunately the last bedroom is now occupied by the security warden, a bit of a sullen cow and that's me being kind. We had such great plans for our penthouse...

Fifi, the Mancunian architect (as opposed to the Devonshire architect Ben) is currently plotting to either (a)Claim she sexually harrassed him or one of the underagers next door, (b) claim she brings drug dealers back to the flat or lastly (c)Poison her.

I know which one I'm going for.

My healthy eating plans seems to have been misplaced, luckily it turns out that Newbie is a pretty good cook and willing to make my meals as long as I am nice to him.

Well, my trip down south is probably best described like this... )
In actual fact, it was pretty fun.
Mic's friends are cool, they even gave me minature puzzles to do so I wouldn't get bored during the football.
Alice's friends seemed very amused by the fact that I was Scottish. I had an awful asthma attack at her house however (I blame the 2000 goats they keep, I'm not even exaggerating). Luckily for me it happened during the middle of the night. Michael was scared silly, not knowing what to do. I have absolutely no recollection of the incident...
Then onto Peterborough to meet Robbie (the small one staying with me during the festival, as if you didn't remember!!) We couldn't actually stay at his house cos of kidneys, chicken pox etc, and in fact he went off to London. And kinda left Mic and I in a village called "Oundle". Apparently.
Anyways, onto Wales, via Birmingham, a bomb scare, throwing up in the toilets (I was actaully ill NOT hungover, before you jump to your own conclusions) and then, cancelled train services, Wolverhampton. Wolverhampton again. Finally Welshpool (where Katy lives)
Fantastic Welsh family, swimming pool, more Welsh people etc etc, Donnie Darko (ie. Newbie)
Then home. Via Penrith and a weird 33 year-old chatting me up while drinking waay too much Heiniken beer.
Quite scary.
Now Glasgow *stress*

I've finally got rid of all my house guests.

That's not actually a good thing. I really really miss having someone round the house. I mean, my anti-social tendencies are now being rewarded, it's true. But I miss Robbie waking me up to get in the house at 4am!! And teasing Michael for being a Tory. And just generally hardly seeing Tom at all.

Not long til the Mac!! I wish I could grasp that. Then I could work on getting excited about it!!

* * *
To think that the last couple of nights I have become (a) completely rat arsed....to coin a phrase, (b) seen Tim Minchin, Dara O'Breen and the other 10 whose names I've forgotten (c) worked the hardest I've ever had to at work, for the simple price of £4 and haven't even collapsed yet is, in my book, fairly damn impressive.
On the downside Robbie has to leave early to look after his parents' twin kidney transplant. On the upside Michael Grew is coming up from Hexham, has a spare ticket to Radiohead and so I can go and see Beck live!! I love the festival soo much. Apart from those Italian kids who smashed the bus window and made me late...yet again.
Have discovered that GSA have placed me in the shitty halls of residence, and I have to pay them £3000 per year for the privilege of living there. Just dobn't mention Glasgow or kitchen utensils to me if we meet.
As for plans, methinks art gallery with Cat today, Rich Hall, Jason Byrne, Danny Bhoy and more Speigletent. Oh and working of course. I'm a little worried that if I leave at the end of August I may miss out from August tips so its probably for the best if I stay on another week or two
BTW, is it true Craig Hogg is off to South Africa? If so..WHAT A FCKING LUCKY BASTARD

Turns out I have a big phobia of skin conditions, I break out in a cold sweat every time I think about Pirates of the Carribbean II. Urgh.

On the upside no noticable psoriasis at T in the Park at the weekend. It's OK, you can all feel free to slander my name for leaving The Who early
. (Kasabian were much better) Was good, although the stars of the day were an unexpected find - "Men, Women and Children" and their Monkey Men chant. It turns out that my incrediably annoyingly cool sister has already heard of them. Of course.
Spent way too much money, but am still bitterly disappointed that the cheap tickets for next year sold out in minutes this morning, and prevented a further spenage beyond my means.

Will hopefully make it out tonight (Dress code: slutty, according to Fiona) although I can't seem to shake off this tiredness I've had for the past week...it's getting old now. Maybe I've just reached the age where I need to take afternoon naps. That, however. shouldn't prevent me from dressing incrediably unsuitably.

Saw a good quote from Billy Connelly last night: "A well balanced person has a drink in each hand"

Hexam was great - especially the 2 hour walk across country to get home after a night out in Newcastle.
Back to work I'm afraid, only excitement so far was the fire alarm going off last night and us being unable to turn it off for 12 hours
I've discovered that the Kooks are incrediebly cool - catchy!
Ruaridh went off to "Birmingham" on Sunday, it took us about 3 days to say goodbye- including All-Night Tescos, jelly eating competitions, fancy dress and cardboard horses....and a hell of a lot of Mario Game something  .....I suck at Mario Game something, although not as much as Pablo who was truly disgraceful.

I still need to get to the Big Mission sometime, anyone interested in getting properly gothed up sometime let me know!

Cat M, I'm now busy til Friday for climbing, so if you fancy it then? We could do it proper climbing stylee and go to the pub afterwards?

Anyways, I almost had to do a 2pm- midnight shift today and I'm back there at 9 tomorrow, so tara!! xx

I am going to Hexam - I am going to Hexam!!
Well, I might be if Robbie gets off his arse and organises himself, or lets me know that he has done so.
Cafe has been better recently, made the most PERFECT cappucino t'other day (boss was skiving - I was alone behind the bar) Liz and my attempts to pull the perfect pint were, however, less than successful. Nevermind, I'm not even working today, so who giving a flying duck
I'm actually really late for meeting Alan and Bob for some serious Grade 3 climbing so must be off

Have had a few shitty days at the cafe recently. I seem to get nagged a lot for either a) things I do without needing told or b) things that are other peoples's fault
Get really sick of that place, sometimes it depends who you're working with, other times it's the customers, sometimes it's both. Especially the young mothers. I hate them so much.

So radomly met with Alan and Jamie, ended up walking home, it took us about 4 hours tho we did bump inot the infamous duo - Alice and Andrew (Tarbuck and Hood) on our way.  Got the finger from a couple of neds as we rested by the roadside and stared at by a whole bunch of weirdos.

Ended up back in Morningside drinking Carling with Michael B and Craig in the park later that evening (classy). Had enormous fight with him again, and it sort of hit home that little old me really can do a lot of damage to a person. Something I thought I'd always avoid... I know I'm only one of his problems, but at the moment he makes me feel like a fairly important one and always just end up feeling incredibly bitchy, or incredibly cold. Arfhg

Saw Alice and Alan again today, good times were spent on top of a cow (action photos to follow), and hopefully will see them again for drunken fun this week. Unfortunately I also have to return to work, I really really can't arsed. I think I'll waste time making my bebo look pretty.

On another note, I was dissapointed with Lost last night. It was pretty much the first episode I hadn't seen and it didn't really do much, even in the Lost sense.
